Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses your own cells to stimulate natural facial rejuvenation. PRP has long been recognised for it’s wound healing properties in areas such as sports injuries and surgery and now this technology is being used for cosmetic enhancement to rejuvenate and to slow down the ageing process.
During a typical PRP treatment, blood is collected from the patient and then spun in a centrifuge (to separate red blood cells and plasma) in order to separate the plasma portion. The PRP portion of your blood is then injected into areas such as cheeks, thinning skin of the neck, fine eye area, jaw line and décolletage. These platelets are rich in growth factors, helping to boost collagen production. It is these growth factors that stimulate the healing process.
As well as being used as a primary treatment for anti-ageing, PRP can be used to compliment other procedures such as IPL, Laser and anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments. PRP is also beneficial when used pre or post surgery to boost healing time and reduce scarring.
PRP is autologous, that is, the use of your own blood, therefore there is no chance of allergy or risk of disease. Results can be seen in as little as 3 weeks, continuing to improve for up to 12 months. It is recommended that patients receive 3 treatments spaced several weeks apart, with a repeat procedure after one year.
Performed by Dr Bao and Nurse Elise, the procedure is done in the clinic and takes only 1 hour. You can expect minimal swelling, bruising or redness for 12 to 24 hours.
