How does SkinPen Microneedling work?

SkinPen microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. This prompts the skin’s natural wound-healing response, which stimulates new collagen and elastin production to help improve skin texture, firmness and tone.

What happens during your treatment

Cleanse and prepare. Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared so the treatment area is clean and ready for microneedling.
Precision microneedling. Your clinician glides the SkinPen device across the skin, adjusting needle depth for each area depending on your anatomy and what we are treating.
Collagen stimulation. The micro-channels trigger your skin’s repair process, encouraging fresh collagen and elastin to form over the following weeks.
Recovery and aftercare. Skin typically looks pink, similar to mild sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours. You’ll leave with a tailored aftercare plan to support healing.

As there is no laser or light heat and, the risks are minimal and is recommended for sensitive and darker skin types. If performed by trained professionals, risks could include bruising or infection. At Skin Clinic @Blyss, our staff are highly trained clinicians to ensure the highest of care.

Most clients describe the sensation as a light prickling or vibration. Needle depth is adjusted for each area, depending on your anatomy and what we are treating.

You will begin to see the results with Medical Skin Needling 7 – 10 days after treatment, with increased results after each treatment. Best results are seen with a course of 3 – 4 treatments at 4- 6 week intervals, with the production of new collagen continuing for up to 6 months post procedure.

Skin will appear ‘flushed’, similar to having had a hard workout at the gym or moderate sunburn. You may have a mild tingling and skin tightness. This will subside within 24 – 48 hours. Skin may be dry and some will flake for a few days. We recommend the use of an anti-bacterial cleanser and an occluding balm for 5 days post treatment as well as a quality SPF.
